The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) uses its global grassroots reach to empower women to be self-confident and strive to be their personal best. MUO believes that every woman should be “Confidently Beautiful”.

The MISS UNIVERSE, MISS USA, and MISS TEEN USA pageants provide an international platform through dedicated partnerships with charities, sponsors, and brands around the world. During their reign, winners are given the tools to personally and professionally enrich others by providing humanitarian efforts to affect positive change, all while developing their personal career goals.

Since MISS USA began in 1952, titleholders and tens of thousands of women in the fifty states and the District of Columbia have contributed to making the competition a national tradition. In 1972, the 21st annual search for Miss USA was held in Puerto Rico and was broadcast live via satellite for the first time. Who would have thought that in 1952, a local “bathing beauty” competition spearheaded by Catalina Swimwear in Long Beach, CA would transform into an international annual tradition with countless young women around the world vying to become a part of Miss Universe history? As millions of fans have watched around the globe, the contest has evolved into a powerful, year-round, international organization that advances and supports opportunities for young women.

The Miss Florida USA and Miss Florida Teen USA Pageants are the official qualifiers towards Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe. Each Delegate has to qualify at a local preliminary pageant and either win her way to state or qualify as a local finalist, or win a Miss Photogenic or Miss Amity award. The classic areas of competition are Interview, Evening Gown and Swimsuit (Physical Fitness).

As the exclusive Fashion Stylist and a Sponsor of the Miss Sarasota USA program I am proud to support local preliminary pageants and Preliminary Director, Sandi Spahn. Sandi is passionate about the Miss USA System. She first got involved with the Miss Florida USA System seven (7) years ago when she helped Sponsor a local delegate into Miss Florida USA. Sandi has extensive experience with producing pageants. She has ran the Miss Lee County USA, Miss Ft. Myers USA, Miss Naples USA pageants and for the past 3 years has held the title of Preliminary Director for Miss Sarasota USA. As the Preliminary Director she independently produces the Official Preliminary Pageants for Miss Sarasota USA, Miss Sarasota Teen USA, Miss SunCoast USA and Miss Little USA. Sandi states “These Preliminary Pageants are the stepping stone to the Miss Florida USA and Miss USA pageants.” She adds “Each delegate has to qualify at local preliminary pageant and either win her way to state, qualify as a local finalist or win Miss Photogenic or Miss Amity award. The Miss Florida USA and Miss Florida Teen USA pageant is the official qualifiers toward Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe.”

Each year Sandi Spahn independently produces an Official Preliminary Pageant. On April 12, 2015 at the Holiday Inn Sarasota Bradenton Airport Grand Ballroom delegates competed in preliminary pageant for the title of 2016 Miss Sarasota Teen USA, 2016 Miss Sarasota USA, Miss SunCoast Teen USA. It was a glamorous evening of pageantry as delegates presented themselves to the audience and judges in interview, evening gown and swimsuit (physical fitness) categories. The end of the evening results: 2016 Miss Sarasota USA. Tanya Naravane; 2016 Miss Sarasota Teen USA, Lucelia Nelles; and 2016 Miss SunCoast USA, Elaina McKenna. These beautiful ladies are “Team Sarasota USA” and they will be representing Sarasota at the Miss Florida USA pageant.

The planning for the next evening of pageantry is underway. The 2017 Preliminary Miss Sarasota USA and Miss Sarasota Teen USA Pageant is scheduled for April 12, 2016 at the Holiday Inn Sarasota Bradenton Airport Grand Ballroom. Sandi is looking for young women who would like to be part of the “Pageant Family.” Preliminary pageants are open to all women of the sunshine state, providing they have been a resident of Florida 6 months and a US citizen. For Miss Sarasota USA potential contestants must be at least 18 and under 27 years of age on February 1, 2016.
