Applications Open For Women’s Sports Museum Scholarship

Calling All High School Senior Female Athletes In Sarasota, Manatee And Charlotte Counties!

Staying true to its mission to inspire girls through the power of sport, the Women’s Sports Museum is accepting applications through Sept. 14th for its 2018-19 Outstanding Female Athlete Scholarship. Two winners will be contacted by Oct. 5th, will be invited to attend and will be announced at the Women’s Sports Museum Gala on Oct. 19th to receive a $2,000 college scholarship.

“As the only museum in the country devoted to women in sports, the Women’s Sports Museum is committed to promoting both past and present athletic excellence,” said President Beth Green. “The Outstanding Female Athlete Scholarship is an important way for us to recognize rising sports stars in our community and inspire future generations of female athletes.”

To be considered for the Outstanding Female Athlete Scholarship, applicants must be a current high school senior in Sarasota, Manatee or Charlotte County and participate in at least one sport. Students are required to submit by deadline an application, essay and coach recommendation letter. Submissions will be evaluated based on a range of factors, including student essay, athletic ability, demonstrated leadership and strength of character.

This is the second year that the Women’s Sports Museum has offered the scholarship program. Last year, a total of $2,000 was awarded to two local athletes.

The Women’s Sports Museum is the first of its kind in the country devoted to women in sports. The much-anticipated museum will feature exhibits that recognize the women who have given their time, talent, tears and triumphs to defy gender stereotypes and lead all women to heights beyond expectation. The museum also offers scholarships, educational programs and activities centered around the world of sports as a way to inspire young girls to participate in athletics.
