Saving Nature At The VUE Photography/story by Ed Bertha As the VUE continues to rise skyward we look back on the day a lone Reclinata Palm Tree, the only living thing on the job site except for the scurrying of craftsman and machines, was saved from obliteration by a move to the end of the Ritz Carlton driveway near 41. The tree was rumored to be planted in the early 1900’s, maybe predating the construction of John Ringling’s hotel. Where will this “tree on wheels” end up next? What was involved? 90 days of prep time 200 ton crane 68,000 […]

Growing up, Carrie was attracted to interior design. Her parents owned a large flooring and counter top company, and at a young age she eagerly accompanied them to job sites. “I used to play interior designer,” she recalls. “I’d spend hours with remnant materials, putting together countertops, wood floors and tile accents to create and recreate dream homes.” By 16, Carrie had garnered a position as an assistant at […]

David Vallone Restorations By Sheila Brannan Longo Photography by Chad Spencer Back in 1986, David Vallone worked as a trim carpenter for a high-end builder constructing a home in The Oaks. On the last few days of the job, Vallone noticed some men bringing in a very fine collection of antique furniture that was just restored. Talking with them, he realized restoring antiques would provide more enjoyment than doing construction work, and was hired by them soon afterwards.
