HD Season To Include Productions From Around the World. Sarasota Opera announces the line-up for the 2015 season of “HD at the Opera House”. This series, which debuted in 2014 and more than quadrupled its projected income goal in its first year, has allowed Sarasota Opera to expand its programming from the fall and winter season to year-around. Sarasota Opera is seeking a limited number of enthusiastic outgoing people to serve as supernumeraries, or “supers”, the non-singing extras in opera productions, for its 2015 Winter Festival Season production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s fairy tale opera The Golden Cockerel and Verdi’s Don Carlos. Supers will take the parts of an emperor, prisoner, and official townspeople. Age range for these characters is from teenager to 60s. At this time the opera is looking for men only. Sarasota Opera is seeking enthusiastic outgoing people to serve as supernumeraries, or “supers”, the non-singing extras in opera productions, and acrobats for its 2015 Winter Festival Season production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s fairy tale opera The Golden Cockerel. Sarasota Opera Introduces Classic Films. As a continuation of its popular “HD at the Opera House” series, Sarasota Opera will host two showings of the 1954 classic “White Christmas” starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. The showings will be on Friday, December 12th at 7pm and Saturday, December 13th at 1:30pm. Sarasota Opera announced it will host an exhibition from the Rome Opera House entitled “Homage to Giuseppe Verdi; Celebrating the Bicentennial of his Birth” March 8 – March 25, 2014. Sarasota Opera Student Season Pass Program Launches. Sarasota Opera announced the launch of the new Student Season Pass program for the 2014 Winter Festival Season. Maestro Victor DeRenzi, who is celebrating his 32nd season as Artistic Director of Sarasota Opera, will conduct “A Verdi Celebration” at Opéra de Montréal in Montreal, Canada on Sunday, December 1st. The gala concert is to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Verdi. Funding Supports Film Projection Equipment For The Opera House. Sarasota Opera was awarded a $50,000 grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation which will complete the necessary funding for film projection equipment for the Opera House. The equipment will enable Sarasota Opera to create an opera broadcast and film series during the off-season, expanding Sarasota Opera’s programming from the fall and winter season to year-around.
