Victor DeRenzi Knighted By Italian Government. The Italian government has bestowed the title of Cavaliere dell’ordine della Stella d’Italia (Knight of the order of the Star of Italy) on Maestro Victor DeRenzi, artistic director and principal conductor of Sarasota Opera. The distinction represents a particular honor extended to those helping spread Italian culture throughout the world. 2014 Annual Meeting At Sarasota Opera Hits A C8. Maestro Victor DeRenzi and Executive Director Richard Russell met with Sarasota Opera patrons and supporters for Sarasota Opera’s 2014 Annual Meeting with an update on the state of Sarasota Opera. Sarasota Opera To Host Exhibit From Rome Opera House. Sarasota Opera announced it will host an exhibition from the Rome Opera House entitled “Homage to Giuseppe Verdi; Celebrating the Bicentennial of his Birth” March 8 – March 25, 2014. The exhibition, underwritten by Piero and Rachele Rivolta, tells the story of the most famous performances of Verdi’s operas, and of the great performers, singers, set designers, and costume designers who have kept the legend of Giuseppe Verdi alive. Maestro Victor DeRenzi, who is celebrating his 32nd season as Artistic Director of Sarasota Opera, will conduct “A Verdi Celebration” at Opéra de Montréal in Montreal, Canada on Sunday, December 1st. The gala concert is to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Verdi. The program will consist of a selection of arias and ensembles from some of Verdi’s greatest works including Aida, Don Carlo, Il trovatore, Otello, and many others. Sarasota Opera’s Fall Production, La Cenerentola. Sarasota Opera has announced casting for its Fall Opera production of Rossini’s La Cenerentola (La Chen-eh-ren-to-la) or Cinderella. The performance will run from October 29th to November 10.
