Ed Bertha led the monthly networking event to Plymouth Harbor on Sarasota Bay. Many attendees had never visited Plymouth Harbor and were taken in by the location and views. Coordinated by Plymouth Harbor’s Gordon Okawa the event featured an overview of the complex by Harry Hobson, Plymouth Harbor’s President and CEO. Keynote speaker Tim Dutton from SCOPE provided an enlightening look into the aging demographics in Sarasota and SCOPE’s quest to form the Sarasota Institute For The Ages (SIA). Dutton commented “Sarasota County is the oldest large county in the nation with nearly one in three residents being over 65. Seventy-eight million baby boomers are yet to come. This puts Sarasota County demographics several decades ahead of the rest of the country. Sarasota is in the unique position to frame the issues and develop programs to transform individuals and communities.” SIA is the forum for Sarasota to take a leadership position in the role of older adults as untapped assets in the community.
