For the month of December Neal Communities committed to contribute $10 for each individual or family who toured one of Neal’s model homes. During that time 271 visitors took the opportunity to see at least one of the Neal Communities homes. The 271 visits translate into a $2,710 donation to Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee by Neal Communities.

“We are grateful for the support from so many individuals and businesses in our community,” comments Meals on Wheels PLUS President/CEO, Ellen Campbell. “The past two years have seen tremendous increase in needs from all areas and demographics. Every gift is important and helps make life better for so many.”

Neal Communities enjoys a good relationship with the non-profit organization. Two years ago the builder donated $22,000 to purchase a 20-foot refrigerated truck for the Food Bank of Manatee, which is run by Meals on Wheels PLUS. The truck significantly increased the Food Bank’s capacity to distribute perishable goods such as eggs, milk and produce. Prior to the purchase, the Food Bank could not collect any perishable items because they had no way to collect and deliver them.

“The needs are great in our community this year, and Meals on Wheels PLUS is one of the many fine charities here that is addressing those needs,” states Neal Communities’ Pat Neal. “We have greatly benefitted from this community and want to support Meals on Wheels’ outreach activities which are critical to the most fragile amongst us.”

Since then it has expanded to also offer adult day care, transportation services, senior enrichment programs, health monitoring and more. The Food Bank of Manatee collects and distributes more than 1 million pounds of food each year to area food pantries, churches and soup kitchens. The Food Bank also provides emergency care food packages and infant care baskets that can be given when a family immediately does not have the resources to care for a new baby.
