On Monday, April 19, 2010, at 11:30am Marie Selby Gardens Associates is celebrating its 30th anniversary with an “Edible Petals” Champagne Luncheon. The Marie Selby Gardens Associates was founded in 1980 by a small group of Selby Gardens members to bring attention to Sarasota’s then-new botanical garden. The group’s mission is “to serve, support, and grow the Gardens.”
“We’re excited to finally have a chance to bring Joan Kershaw to Selby Gardens,” said Associates President Sue Scully. “What could possibly be more fun than dining on flowers to raise money for a garden!”
The fundraising event will feature appetizers, salads, and desserts made with flowers. The Great Room by the Bay at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will be the site for this festive feast. Proceeds will benefit Selby Gardens’ mission of research, conservation, education and horticultural display.
In addition to a delectable, eye-catching luncheon, attendees will enjoy live Celtic harp music by Olivia Swaan, champagne, and a presentation on turning food into flowers and flowers into food by Kershaw of Floral Concept. Kershaw, who trained extensively in Thailand in the art of Kae Sa Luk (fruit and vegetable carving), researched the use of edible flowers in recipes of France, England, Mexico, South and Central America to develop her unique cuisine and presentation.
