Sellers facing a possible short sale and buyers considering purchasing a short-sale property can understand their options by watching “Short Sale Myths and Truths” a 30-minute program airing on Manatee Educational Television (METV).

Mary Howard of CornerStone Title is the moderator and the show also features Jim Soda of the Jim Soda Group, a Prudential Palms Realty agent; Anne Weintraub, a partner with Syprett Meshad law firm and attorney and certified public accountant Jo Ann Koontz of Yesner & Boss.

The program airs through the end of May on Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 6pm, Wednesdays at 9:30pm and Fridays at 10am. For additional show times visit www.metvweb.com [2].

METV is broadcast on Bright House Channel 614, Verizon FIOS Channel 31 and Comcast Channel 19.

Appalled by the predatory practices of individuals looking to make a quick buck off the misfortune of others, the four presenters recently crossed industry lines to offer an educational campaign for the public.

“Many homeowners fear the stigma associated with a short sale, but they must overcome those emotions and take control of their situation,” said Howard. “There is hope, but you must be pro-active. We want sellers who are potentially facing a short sale to understand that they are not alone and help is available.”

“The short-sale process is lengthy and complicated, but it can be achieved,” said Soda. “With all the scams and countless promises out there, we want to educate people about how to do a short sale the right way.”

“The tax consequences of a short sale are very complex and confusing and incorrect information is everywhere,” said Koontz. “My focus is in helping sellers reduce or even eliminate the tax that they will owe as a result of a short sale. This process is much less intimidating when people understand what to expect and the information comes from a reputable source.”

“Homeowners can never have enough reliable and easy-to-understand tips on avoiding foreclosure,” said Weintraub. “The program illustrates a lot of the common issues associated with short sales, but it also addresses some of the solutions. After watching the program, homeowners will be better prepared and armed with the knowledge they need to make hard decisions.”
