Designed to protect consumers and reduce fraud in the real estate industry, the new Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), is the topic of a course entitled “Mysteries of the New HUD Revealed.” The course is scheduled for Thursday, June 17, 9am-to noon, at the Polo Grill/Fete Ballroom, 10670 Boardwalk Loop in Lakewood Ranch. Registration begins at 8:30am. There will be a lunch following the course.

Presented by CornerStone Title, the course is designed for loan originators, Realtors and other professionals in the real estate industry. The course is approved for three continuing education credits by the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC). The guest speaker is real estate attorney Victoria Behm, Underwriting Counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Company of Tampa.

“Since the new regulations took effect in January, there has been confusion across the industry,” said Mary Howard of CornerStone Title. “This course will help professionals understand these changes so they can be a better resource and adviser to their clients. Our common goal is for buyers and sellers to be 100 percent comfortable with their real estate transactions. We all want to be as knowledgeable as possible in order to guide them in understanding what measures the government has taken to help protect them from practices that transpired in the past that have led us to the current environment.”

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) now requires that loan originators provide borrowers with a standard Good Faith Estimate (GFE) that clearly discloses key loan terms and closing costs. This course will review the new regulations and will explain the new HUD-1 settlement statement and GFE form. Tolerances will be explained, as well as how violations are resolved. HUD frequently asked questions will be answered.

There is no cost for the seminar and lunch. Optional reference packets are available for $5. To register, call (941) 708-0300 or email register@cornerstonetitle.biz [2].
