Neal Communities will hold its second annual Neal Communities Golf Challenge, four-person golf scramble at University Park Country Club on Saturday, September 25, 2010 with all of the proceeds benefiting B.D. Gullett Elementary School in Lakewood Ranch. The event begins with a shotgun starting at 1:00 pm and concludes with an awards ceremony and dinner. The cost is $100 for 18 holes of golf and a buffet dinner.

“Schools are vitally important to the health of a community,” said Pat Neal, president of Neal Communities. “As school funding falls, fundraisers become more and more important; the PTO, volunteers and parents have been working hard to make this a successful event.”

Last year, the Neal Communities Golf Challenge raised $22,000, of which $10,000 was donated by Neal Communities. Those funds were used for technology, curriculum and classroom resources.  In fact, each teacher received $200 to purchase items, such as books, educational games, art supplies and musical instruments. “Although the Manatee County School district has already cut $44 million from its annual operating budget over the last two school years, the district is expecting an additional cut of $6 million to $15 million for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year,” said Cherie Albrecht, who is the co-chair of the Golf Challenge, along with her husband, Philipp.

B.D. Gullett, located across from Central Park at Lakewood Ranch, is the newest elementary school in the area. For more information on the Golf Challenge, contact Cherie Albrecht at 941-896-5723 or email calbmailbox-gullettgolf@yahoo.com [2]. This four-person scramble is limited to the first 100 players. Individuals who do not wish to play golf are invited to attend the buffet dinner starting at 5:30 pm. The cost of the buffet is $30 for adults and $18 for children under 11-years-old.  Raffles prizes will also be available and include gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses and foursomes at local golf courses, including the Ritz Carlton Membership Club. Child care will also be provided at B.D. Gullett during the event for school-aged children (pre-kindergarten through 5th grade).
