Music lovers in attendance during the Ringling International Arts Festival’s Night of Premieres will be in for a rare treat sponsored by Icard Merrill. Renowned violinist Tim Fain will perform selections from a new composition by Philip Glass as well as the monumental Partita in D Minor by J.S. Bach. The Glass piece is co-commissioned by The Ringling Museum, with such esteemed institutions as NYC’s Symphony Space and KANEKO of Omaha; it is inspired by Glass’ work, The Book of Longing. The concert will be sponsored by Sarasota-based law firm Icard, Merrill, Cullis, Timm, Furen & Ginsburg in keeping with the firm’s 57-year tradition of supporting the arts in the local community. As part of the festival’s Night of Premieres, the concert will be held at the Cook Theatre with performances on October 13th at 7 p.m. and October 14th at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Tim Fain is widely considered to be one of the world’s rising violin stars with a “matinee idol profile, strong musical instincts and first-rate chops.” A recipient of the coveted Young Concert Artists International Award and an Avery Fisher Career Grant-winner, Fain has appeared in landmark venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, and has played with some of the top symphonies and orchestras around the world. He was lauded as a guest soloist for the New York City Ballet and was heard as the voice of Richard Gere’s violin in Fox Searchlight’s feature film, Bee Season.

Following its debut last year, the Ringling International Arts Festival is back by popular demand to showcase world-class artists, dancers, musicians and performers in various Sarasota area venues from October 13th to 17th. Organized by The John and Mable Ringling Museum and New York’s Baryshnikov Arts Center, the five-day festival will feature 45 stage productions and a wide variety of exhibits, tours, lectures, performances and special events.
