Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and La Vista Verde present the 7th annual Rainforest Masks of the Borucan Indians of Costa Rica. The Selby Museum of Botany and the Arts showcases these unique, striking masks through April 15, 2011, from 10 am – 4:30 pm.
 
Meet the Artists sessions are scheduled on March 12 and 13 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. (Spanish interpreters are available). Take advantage of this opportunity to meet the Borucan artists and watch them carve and paint these incredible, one-of-a-kind masks. C.J. Shelley of La Vista Verde will present a lecture entitled, “The Road to Boruca and Beyond” in the Cooley Theater at Selby Gardens on March 10 from noon – 1:00 pm. This free lecture will include a travelogue with images of Costa Rica and the indigenous village of Boruca.
 
In addition to the Rainforest Masks Exhibit is the Asian Cultural Festival is March 19 and 20 from 10:00 am- 5:00 pm. Asian Cultural Festival highlights include the Matsuriza Taiko Drummers, a Lion Dance by Tang Martial Arts Center, ShoFu Bonsai show and sale, and an exhibit of Sumi-e painting. Both festivities coupled together are events not to be missed.

Members enter free, members guests’ $5; adults (age 12 and up) $17; Children 11 and under enter free. There are no reciprocals or guest passes for these events.
