Raising Roofs Together
Our paths crossed via the suggestion of Charlotte Hedge of Signature Sotheby’s International Realty. I went and met with Renee Snyder, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Sarasota, and committed to profiling her organization.
Fate intervened and our organizations became entwined when Holly Dennis of Hughes Design Associates placed the “Can you help?” call. We met again and started a series of meetings that led to the gala event celebrating the opening of Habitat Sarasota’s second ReStore location that netted over $10,000.
During the planning process WWSB ABC 7’s Amy Tuten and Melissa Parker were alerted about the opening. Kindly ABC 7 provided media coverage the next day for the actual grand opening. All totaled the two days raised over $20,000 for Habitat for Humanity Sarasota.
Humbling, yes. Proud that REAL could help “raise a roof”, most definitely. Thank you to everyone involved!
Organizing the gala event intimately exposed me to Habitat for Humanity Sarasota and what makes them special. It starts at the top with Renee who was named 2010/2011 Woman of the Year by the Board of Directors of the National Association of Professional Women. Spending time with her I now know why she received the award and the special leadership she provides Habitat. The event also enabled me to meet and work with Jed Daniels, Director of ReStore Operations, and Leann Aldridge, Marketing Coordinator, who contribute wholeheartedly to the organization. There are many more behind the scenes at Habitat. What an incredible team and what an incredible service they provide to our community.
This issue Renee Snyder and Habitat for Humanity Sarasota grace the cover of REAL Magazine. It is through the generous support of Stabil Concrete Pavers and the continuing philanthropic efforts of REAL Magazine that we are able to visit Habitat in an extended manner.
200+ families are now Sarasota homeowners through Habitat Sarasota. If you haven’t attended a Habitat home dedication you should. What a moving experience.
