Habitat for Humanity Sarasota will save a colony of endangered honey bees located in a tree on one of their housing lots located at 1827 Worrington Way in Sarasota on May 10th at 8:30am.

During the planning stages for a Habitat home, Habitat Sarasota discovered a large honey bee hive in the cavity of a diseased tree. The bees can’t be removed from the tree because of the depth of the hive and the inability to get the queen.

Renee Snyder, Executive Director said, “The honey bees are on a mysterious decline and the ecosystem depends on the honey bee as a major pollinator for the food supply, without their pollination services, crops won’t grow and the ability to provide affordable food for our families will sharply decline in the future. We are an eco-friendly organization on all fronts and we care about our environment.”

JP Excavating Services will remove the tree along with the bees. They will be taken to a local beekeeper. The bees will then automatically migrate to the beekeepers hives.
