The Journey

This issue we start off with a visit with the U.K.’s Vince Fraser, the mastermind behind the Sarasota Film Festival’s digital artwork. His film festival work is phenomenal and in this issue he shares the progression from conception to final design of this year’s artwork with us. On the REAL web site we also get a look at some of his other artistic endeavors, from gaming pods to iPAD cases and beyond. Thanks to another Brit, Rob Smithson of Trinity Graphic, for making this possible.

Next we take a stroll down Hillview Street. If you missed it you shouldn’t have. Giving Hunger the Blues raised over $100,000 for All Faiths Food Bank. A huge success and thanks to all the sponsors, performers and volunteers! Possibly the best block party you will find anywhere, this was REAL’s first year as a sponsor and I can assure you we will be back. Mark your calendars, the 17th annual Giving Hunger the Blues is scheduled for Sunday March 25, 2012.

Continuing on let’s jet off to Miami and visit the home of the late Elizabeth Taylor’s first fiancé, William Pawley, Jr. It’s said that Pawley ignited Taylor’s love for jewelry with her first engagement ring. For only $45,000/month you can hang out there and pretend you are a star. If you’re really lucky maybe Pawley will come by with a few of Taylor’s love letters!

Settling back in Sarasota I’m proud to announce that REAL is teaming up to sponsor Jesse White and Sarasota Architectural Salvage’s upcoming charity event season. It’s incredible how like minded people find each other. Thank you Jesse for all that you do for the community and congratulations on your Junior League Child Advocacy Community Child Advocate of the Year Award. Oh by the way, Jesse White was green before green became cool.
