The Eye Associates announced that John Brian Foster, MD, has joined the practice. He is a fellowship trained cornea specialist, experienced in corneal transplants and DSAEK for Fuch’s Endothelial Dystrophy, DALK for keratoconus, LASIK, implantable collamer lenses, clear lens extraction, dry eye treatment and cataract surgery.

“Dr. Foster is an outstanding addition to our practice and our community” said Dr. Harris Silverman, who founded The Eye Associates in 1980. “His mastery of the very latest surgical advancements in his field represents a great asset for our patients.”

As one of only a few surgeons in the country who is experienced and skilled in DALK and DSAEK, the latest modern corneal transplant techniques, Dr. Foster is a welcome addition to the local medical community. In addition, he has made several medical mission trips with Project Echo to Honduras and outlying islands. At home, his community involvement includes volunteer work with other humanitarian organizations, such as Student Sight Savers, and Habitat For Humanity.

After graduating with honors from the University of Florida, Dr. Foster obtained his Doctorate of Medicine from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, where he also served his internship. He went on to Wake Forest University Eye Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he completed his ophthalmology residency. His corneal fellowship training was accomplished at the Eye Consultants of Atlanta, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Foster’s academic achievements resulted in his being awarded numerous honors, notably the Resident Excellence Award from the ASCRS Foundation, the Joseph B. Whitehead Surgery Scholarship, and the Best Poster Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He was Phi Beta Kappa and on the President’s Honor Roll at the University of Florida.
