COR Designer Furniture; Simplicity Is The Ultimate Sophistication

By Michael Bush

Purist in appearance, unmistakable in design, COR [1] pieces are modern-day classics that gain their beauty from quality materials, exceptional craftsmanship and excellent proportions, making COR [2], a designer furniture manufacturer based in Germany, a leader in the industry practically since its inception.

COR manufactures a complete line of furniture, including bedroom, dining and living room groups. All its materials, whether leather, fabric, wood, steel or aluminum, are of the highest possible quality. While technology has a part to play, COR relies heavily on the skilled hands and eyes of master craftspeople, who lovingly care over each and every detail of manufacture.

Since its inception, COR has been located in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Germany, on the grounds of a former wagon factory. Leo Lübke and Prince Adolf of Bentheim Tecklenburg began manufacturing in 1955 under the name of COR – Latin for “heart,” after the three hearts in Prince Bentheim’s coat of arms. A year later, COR received the first of its many awards, and COR’s star was on the rise.

The company’s growth was in small but consistent steps, over time expanding its manufacturing facility, intensifying its exports and adding more designers and lines.

The company uses renowned designers who understand COR’s philosophy of creating products that are timeless, functional and independent minded. These award-winning designers have made a profound impact on the furniture industry, producing a myriad of celebrated pieces, including Lava sculptural seating furniture by Kirsten Hoppert and Steffen Kroll of Studio Vertijet, Fino tables and chairs by Holger Janke, and the Cosma sofa by Thomas Müller and Jörg Wulff.

In our continued search for furniture brands that prioritize quality and timeless design, Home Resource [3] is proud to become the exclusive Florida West Coast retailer for COR. Home Resource will showcase a collection of COR’s most successful models, as well as recent award-winning designs. Among the collection will be the Conseta sofa by Friedrich-W. Möller, the Shrimp chair by Markus Jehs und Jürgen Laub and Rawi upholstered chairs by Alfred Kleene and Gabriele Assmann.

In addition to enduring quality and lasting value, COR is committed to sustainability, taking an eco-sensitive approach to its manufacturing processes. It was the first company in the German furniture industry to go through the Eco Audit according to EC standards in 1995. The company uses raw materials from renewable sources and is working to reduce harmful emissions and waste. Remnants from the wood-working processes are recycled and used to heat the plant.

Today, with a workforce of more than 200, COR continues to challenge the industry with sophisticatedly simple designs, uncompromising quality, and responsible manufacturing practices. Its efforts have been rewarded recently with the German Design Award and the Red Dot Award, as well as the Interior Innovation Award at the 2011 furniture show in Cologne, Germany. Home Resource is proud to be associated with a company of this caliber.

Home Resource showcases the latest designs and iconic pieces from around the world, including Fritz Hansen, Knoll, Estel, DEDON, Gamma, Vitra, Herman Miller, Adrian Hoyos and Janus et Cie. With many important brands under one roof, we are sought after by interior designers from around the world.

My wife, Kathy, and I welcome you to drop by to view, ask questions, learn about the different brands – and add to your collection.
