The Sarasota Opera is hosting a casting call to find 2-3 children to portray Butterfly’s son in the 2011 fall production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. The role is non-singing and the casting call takes place Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 4:30pm at the Sarasota Opera House.

In the opera, the character is three years old. This is a volunteer position and the period of commitment is from October 6 through November 15, 2011. Availability days, evenings and weekends is required however rehearsals and performances are not daily. 

Sarasota Opera is seeking children who are:

• 5 – 7 years old but look younger
• Light in weight
• Willing to have adult performers sing loudly near them
• Well behaved and can quickly follow directions
• Note: Girls must be willing to dress as a boy

At the casting session, Martha Collins, the production’s stage director, will interview the children. The children will have an opportunity to meet some of the cast members of Madama Butterfly. No preparation is required to attend the call.
