The Lakewood Ranch Community Fund recently awarded $64,000 in grants to 19 local non-profit organizations. The grant amounts ranged from $500 to $6,000. At the same ceremony, the fund presented this year’s C. John A. Clarke Humanitarian of the Year Award to Bob and Billie Delaney for their philanthropy. Locally the couple founded the Bob Delaney Leadership Academy at Bayshore Elementary School, and nationally they work on behalf of military members suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

“We reviewed 37 applications for this year’s grants, with requests for $150,000,” said Dr. Dick Wharton, who chaired the grant selection process. “It’s always a difficult decision, but we decided to focus on the substantial need for funding of health, education or human services in and around Lakewood Ranch. We’re pleased that we were able to give more this year than last year.”
