The doors open Tuesday April 24, 2012, for a concert at St Pete’s Jannus Live with Steele Pulse and SOJA (Soldiers of Jah Army).
Steel Pulse formed in Birmingham, England in 1975 and was an adjunct member of Britain’s nascent punk scene — they opened for the likes The Clash, XTC and the Police — before carving out a major position on the international reggae scene. Over the years, the band has enjoyed its share of pop success, driven by their unerring ear for hooks and sublime vocal harmonies.
SOJA (Soldiers of Jah Army) formed in 1997 in northern Virginia and has carved out a vaunted niche as one of the most roots-type bands in the modern, beach-oriented reggae scene. SOJA released an album, Strength to Survive, on Dave Matthews’ ATO label earlier this year.
While neither band hails from Jamaica, their combined concert promises a whole lot of reggae authenticity.
