Former State Senator Pat Neal, President and CEO of Neal Communities, will head the “Vote Yes on 10” campaign to amend Florida’s Constitution by doubling the current $25,000 exemption on the value of tangible personal property.

“It’s a win-win-win for Florida businesses, job seekers, and government agencies eager to attract economic development and boost their tax base,” said Neal, chairman of the “Yes on 10” coalition of local government and business organizations.

The measure’s supporters expect the reduced tax on Florida businesses to further jump-start job creation across the state, if passed by voters this November. The amendment requires 60 percent voter approval.

A key part of Governor Rick Scott’s 2012 Job Creation and Economic Growth Agenda, and placed on the ballot by a nearly unanimous Florida Legislature, Amendment 10 would also give local governments the flexibility to approve ordinances, granting additional exemptions.

Today, more than 300,000 Florida businesses pay the tax, considered a major burden in an already high property tax state. Business owners have criticized the current levy for the exorbitant time required to track items and complete paperwork.
