[1]Free Surgeries Available For Cats.
A three day spay-neuter blitz to sterilize local cats will occur on Feb. 23, 24 and 25th, 2013, as cat rescue groups collaborate to increase spay-neuter surgeries prior to the upcoming kitten season when kittens overwhelm local area shelters.
The Venice Cat Coalition and St. Francis Animal Rescue are co-sponsoring the clinic, led by Dr. Andrea Bivens using her new 24-foot veterinary mobile care clinic to conduct the surgeries.
The mobile care clinic will accept 20 cats per day by appointment and is open to feral, free-roaming, stray or owned cats. Kittens as young as 8 weeks of age can safely be fixed if they weigh 2 lbs. or more, using new cutting-edge techniques known as “pediatric” surgeries.
For residents wanting to book a surgery appointment for the upcoming Mickelson Cat Clinic, please call the St. Francis spay/neuter hotline at 941-492-6200. You can also apply online at www.venicecatcoalition.com [2]. There is no charge for the spay-neuter services but donations are strongly encouraged.
