Cat Depot Staff Receives CPR Certification.

On Wednesday of this week two local organizations partnered to save lives. Affairs of the Heart provided full CPR/AED certification to the staff of Cat Depot. After a two-hour on-site class, Cat Depot staff members are now equipped to handle human emergencies — in addition to the feline variety.

Affairs of the Heart (AOTH) was founded by 17-year-old Georgia Kossoff in 2011. After witnessing a small child drown and die amidst controversy surrounding the CPR procedures followed, Kossoff began Affairs of the Heart to promote CPR training in the community by organizing and sponsoring customized CPR events. Cat Depot, the largest no-kill feline rescue in Sarasota, decided to take action after Lynn Rasys, Director of Communications, read an article about AOTH on The Giving Partner’s blog.

Through Affairs of the Heart, Cat Depot organized its first CPR certification event. The staff at Cat Depot has now made its facility a safer place for visitors, staff, and volunteers – an example that most organizations would benefit from following. The training was made affordable to the non-profit organization by the partnership of Affairs of the Heart and Bill Sullivan, authorized American Heart Association trainer. Bill’s CPR training was interactive, skill-based and compelling, stressing hands-on participation and cooperative teamwork. Multiple attendees expressed their amazement at the vital knowledge they had acquired in just two hours.

“It was truly an honor to provide CPR training to such an incredible non-profit,” said Kossoff, “I would love to see more organizations follow Cat Depot’s lead.”
