June 22, 2013 Ancient Oak Gun Club Grand Opening

Public Invited To Shoot.

The Ancient Oak Gun Club at Lakewood Ranch will host its public grand opening on Saturday, June 22. The event will include special pricing of 25-cents per target; the first 150 attendees will receive a free hat and there will be a raffle for a prize basket with shooting accessories. The club will be open from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.; lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Call to make reservations for golf carts and to allow us to get an accurate count for lunch.

Ancient Oak Gun Club opened at the end of April with the hugely successful Roger Hill Memorial Shoot, and has hosted several tournaments since then. Club manager Wayne Evans is looking forward to expanding the sport. To help do this, he said, and the club will offer a free “Women and Kids Clinic” June 23. Participants will be introduced to the basics of sporting clays, including eye dominance, gun fit, acquiring targets and gun handling/safety. Ultimately, participants will have a chance to start breaking targets. The clinic will last approximately three hours. The club can only accommodate the first 20 people who sign up. The person taking the clinic is required to weigh at least 80 pounds, which helps ensure that the shooter has the proper strength and stability to handle the shotgun.
