Habitat Launches Legacy of Valor

Habitat for Humanity Begins Veterans Repair Project.

Habitat Sarasota announced that Art Takes, age 86 and a World War II veteran, is the first recipient of Habitat for Humanity Sarasota’s Legacy of Valor Veterans Repair Project. During the next month, Habitat volunteers will assist Takes with repairs at his home.

Assisting with the project will be Habitat Sarasota Project Leader Bud Rives, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel along with and a group of other Habitat volunteers, many of whom are also veterans. We get a kick out of doing it,” said Rives, 73. “It makes you happy to do that for folks. You are making an impact in a short time and helping someone who needs it.”

The Veterans Repair Project is part of a larger effort, the Legacy of Valor, a campaign created by The Patterson Foundation to rally the community to honor veterans, inspire patriotism and embrace freedom.

Habitat’s Veterans Repair Project is a collaboration of several Habitat affiliates in the region. The repair projects will focus on outside renovations to benefit qualified veterans throughout the area during 2013.
