September 26, 27, 30, 2013 Home Resource Theater

Home Resource Presents Leading Men.

Home Resource announces the performance of Leading Men on September 26th, 27th & 30th, an original play written by Blake Walton and directed by Annie Morrison.

This event has a very special meaning to Home Resource’s Michael and Kathy Bush because Walton and Morrison chose to showcase Leading Men at Home Resource  before Walton premieres this play in the United Solo Play Theater Festival in October. (does that sound familiar, a producer/director bringing a play to Sarasota to fine tune it before it premieres in NYC. ?) At last years Solo Play festival, Walton received a Best Premiere award for the play “Trevor’s Fire” and Morrison won the award for Best Actress for her performance in “Linda Lovely Goes to Broadway,”.  Based on those achievements, both were inducted into the United Solo Academy along with other Broadway actors.

In Leading Men, Walton tells the truth through his unique, curious, deep and funny evolution from boyhood in the 1950s to manhood, finding a profound understanding of his father when he becomes a father himself. It is a story of fatherhood and the demonstration of what it is to be a “real man” in this society.

Told as a 70 minute monologue Walton wrote Leading Men as the tale of what it is to be a man through the lens of someone who is too often considered “other than.” It is interwoven with his story  as a gay boy growing up in Eisenhower America, who is rejected by his father at a very young age for being “different.”  As he grows into adulthood, the two men find an understanding, then acceptance and finally a profound admiration and love for each other when he becomes a father himself. Because of the strength, creativity, humor, honesty and compassion possessed by his father, himself and Blake’s son, the three “Leading Men” in this life movie demonstrate “True Manhood”.

Ticket prices are $15 and the performance starts at 7:00pm. To reserve a seat at a performance, please email Michael Bush at mbush@homeresource.com [1]. This show will sell out. All ticket proceeds go to the actors.
