Home Resource announced that on October 8th, Eames Demetrios, the grandson of Charles and Ray Eames will be in Sarasota to speak at Ringling College. He will provide a very personal, behind-the-scenes look at the remarkable careers of his grandparents, Mid-Century designers Charles and Ray Eames. Demetrios will share insights into the processes and philosophies of Charles and Ray, including the same creative struggles that challenge today’s designers. To honor the centennial of Ray’s birth, Eames will highlight her formidable design role – an aspect of the partnership that has often been downplayed. Charles Eames had an expression he learned in the movie industry, “The blood will never show”, referring to the hard work required to make things look easy and natural to the viewer. Demetrios will shed light on this bit of wisdom and tie it back to one of the most important design collaborations of the past century.
Eames is the Director of the Eames Office and Chairman of the Board of the Eames House Foundation. He is one of Charles and Ray Eames’s five grandchildren who are stewarding the Eames legacy. Based in Los Angeles, Eames is an acclaimed filmmaker, writer, lecturer and creator of the global artwork Kcymaerxthaere. His book, An Eames Primer, which has been a staple of design enthusiasts since it came out in 2001, has recently been re-issued as a second edition and will be the basis of a major exhibition in Singapore this year. The book will be available for sale after the presentation.
