Historical Society of Sarasota County Invites You!

The Historical Society of Sarasota County will turn its Annual Pioneer Day into a Viva Florida 500 calendar event, called Pirates and Pioneers Day on Saturday, Nov. 16th, from 10:00am-4pm at their Pioneer Park location at 1260 12th St. (Between N. Trail and Cocoanut Ave.)

Admission is a donation of canned goods for the Mayor’s Feed the Hungry Campaign.  Pirate or Pioneer costumes are encouraged for all!  Geared mainly towards families, there will be something for everyone throughout the day, beginning with Sue Blue’s narrated Trolley Tour of Historic Downtown Sarasota from 10:00am-Noon.

Artists, craftsmen, local authors and other vendors will fill the Thieves Market with a wide array of items.  Local authors will be on hand for book signings throughout the day.

Children will be entertained and educated in the historic Crocker Memorial Church, by “America’s Troubadour”, Bill Schustik and Rosemary Dilgard.  There will be Arts/Crafts projects on the Back Porch and Krisztina’s Games of Skill and Balance for the whole family!  A Treasure Dig for the little ones too! The D.A.R. will be conducting tours of the Whitaker Pioneer Cemetery during their Open House, next door.

The Humane Society of Sarasota will have their Mobile Adoption Center on site till 2:00 p.m.  Pirate Grub will be available from Nealski’s Bar-B-Que.

On Friday, Nov. 15th,  Troubadour, Bill Schustik and Friends will be performing a musical history of pirates called,  “Pirates, Rogues and Broadsides” at the Crocker Church, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Schustik, who has performed for three different Presidents, at the White House, calls this the adult version of the Pirates Tales.
