So You Want To Be A Super??

Sarasota Opera Is Seeking Supernumeraries.

Sarasota Opera is seeking enthusiastic outgoing people to serve as supernumeraries, or “supers”, the non-singing extras in opera productions, and acrobats for its 2015 Winter Festival Season production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s fairy tale opera The Golden Cockerel.

Supers will take the parts of guards, servants, pages and bizarre masked characters (unicorn lady, unicorn man, goat lady, goat men, etc.) Age range for these characters is from teenager to 60’s.

To be considered for a super role, you must:

• Must be taller than 5’ 2”
• Be physically fit
• Be able to perform onstage without glasses
• Be able to walk on slopes and stairs
• Be able to wear elaborate and sometimes very heavy costumes
• Be able to see in both dim and bright light
• Men must be willing to shave

Sarasota Opera is also searching for two trained acrobats who are able to walk across the stage on their hands and/or do flips or aerial cartwheels.

Being a super requires both daytime and evening availability from January 27, 2015 through March 19, 2015 but it is not a daily commitment. Rehearsals will be limited to Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and during the day on Saturday. A definitive calendar will be distributed closer to the start of rehearsals for The Golden Cockerel.

If you would like to volunteer as a super or as an acrobat, please contact Director of Artistic Administration Greg Trupiano at gtrupiano@sarasotaopera.org or by phone at (941) 366-8450, ext. 534.
