Donald Rumsfeld, best known for serving as Defense Secretary for President George W. Bush from 2001-2006, recently sold his house in Washington, DC for $3.9 million. The house was originally listed in July 2014 for $4.5 million. It’s estimated that he made $600,000 in profit as the home was purchased in 2001 for $3.3 million.

The home has 5,115 sq ft and spans 4 levels. The 1st floor contains a library, living room, dining room, garden room and kitchen. The 2nd floor contains the master suite, sitting room and 2 bedrooms. The 3rd level, the attic, has 2 bedrooms. The basement has 2 bedrooms, rec room, laundry room and utility room.

Rumsfeld had a long career in politics. In addition to George W Bush he was defense secretary for President Ford from 1975-1977. He was a U.S. congressman from Illinois from 1962–1969, director of the Office of Economic Opportunity from 1969–1970, counselor to the president from 1969–1973, the U.S. permanent representative to NATO from 1973–1974, and White House chief of staff from 1974–1975.
