Get Up, Stand Up, For Bob Marley’s 70th Birthday!

Marley’s final words to his son Ziggy were “Money can’t buy life.”

Most know Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley as a Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, musician, and guitarist who achieved international fame and acclaim. Starting out in 1963 with the Wailers, he forged a distinctive songwriting and vocal style that would later resonate with audiences worldwide. The Wailers, with producer Lee Scratch Perry, would go on to release some of the earliest reggae recordings. After the Wailers disbanded in 1974, Marley pursued a solo career culminating in the release of the album Exodus in 1977, establishing his worldwide reputation and producing his status as one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, with sales of more than 75 million records. He was a committed Rastafari who infused his music with a sense of spirituality. Born February 6, 1945 Marley died from cancer on May, 11, 1981.

iHeartRadio is celebrating the life of Bob Marley. To commemorate Marley’s 70th birthday, iHeartRadio debuts a new reggae station, iRie Radio [1] featuring Bob Marley and other popular and influential reggae artists.
