Bring on Spring: Freshen Up Your Style

By Becca Smith

Welcome to the “Bring on Spring” series. It’s May now and a perfect time to give your wardrobe a little freshening up so you’ll be ready to step out this spring in style. Spring is the perfect time of year to get a fresh start and cleaning out your closet is the first step. Yes, that’s right, it’s time to “spring-proof” your wardrobe. Time to put away those dark drab colors and heavier fabrics. I don’t know about you, but I’m wanting to add some color to my everyday outfits. I’m loving the idea of adding small bits of color, florals and pattern into my normal wardrobe. Dreary colors can easily become the staple for spring, but I’m really trying to get a little more colorful! Neon’s, florals and pastels are the way to go, so don’t be afraid of adding some color in your life. This spring is all about color so step outside your comfort zone and brighten it up!

You can also spruce up your wardrobe this spring with accessories. I recommend chunky jewelry in bright colors (a cuff or bib necklace), bright or metallic sandals and flats, a bright scarf (aim for multicolored scarves to get the most bang for your buck so they coordinate with more outfits), a big bag in a neutral leather or bright color (helps contain on the go essentials and can punch your outfit up a notch).

Adding these 10 must-have pieces will also help you ‘Spring Up your wardrobe”:

Spring’s daytime essential – the sporty A-line dress
High-neck dresses with a flirty, full skirt show just the right amount of skin for spring’s daytime events and look great with flats.

Spring’s going-out heels – pointy white pumps
Black doesn’t quite work with spring’s pale, pretty colors. Try optic white this season for a fun update to your going-out look.

Spring’s everyday denim – cropped boyfriend jeans
Slim-yet-slouchy and cropped, not rolled. Dress up with blazer or low-heeled pumps or down with minimal, flat sandals and a boho top.

Spring’s T-shirt alternative: a crossover tank top
It’s tempting to reach for a tee, but why not try crossover tank instead.

Spring’s city sandals: strappy block heels
Fancy enough to wear with skirts and dresses and almost as comfortable as your beloved flip-flops.

Spring’s date-night stunner: a skirt with a split
Skirts with daring front facing splits are the sexiest trend to come around. They come in every length and volume.

Spring’s lightweight jacket: a round-shoulder coat
The new heroine worthy outerwear shape is rounded at the shoulder and bold in color or pattern.

Spring’s look-at-me satchel: a bold iPad-size bag
IPad-size bags in bold colors and materials are the modern girl’s new go-to.

Spring’s 24/7 top: a striped button-down
Bold strips in basic colors are one of spring’s most wearable trends and they go with everything staple.

Spring’s casual office outfit: a polished shorts suit
Ditch your dark jeans this spring in favor of a chic shorts suit in a bright color or bold print.

Ladies, it’s time to “step out in style” in these ten (10) must-have pieces. What do you say, are you with me? Let’s all get rid of those drab, dark sweaters and jeans and trade them in for colorful updates! The dark days of winter are a thing of the past and it’s time our wardrobes reflect that. Springing up our wardrobes will help us transition into the warmer months of summer.
