Recently, Land Rover Southpointe revealed the new Discovery Sport, the world’s most versatile premium compact SUV, and the first member of the new Discovery family. Unique to its segment, Discovery Sport’s dynamic design combines 5+2 seating with design and engineering integrity in a compact footprint.
A host of Land Rover innovations debut, including the next generation multi-link rear axle, a pedestrian airbag that minimizes the consequences of a collision, an all-new touchscreen infotainment system and a state of the art high strength steel and lightweight aluminium body for outstanding performance, safety and efficiency.
Discovery Sport was designed to be as environmentally friendly as it is affordable to run: CO2 emissions are comparable to smaller and less versatile family hatchbacks. Buyers can opt for a range of powerful and efficient four-cylinder gasoline or diesel engines, two or four wheel drive, and an advanced nine-speed automatic.
Discovery Sport is clearly identifiable as a Land Rover but introduces a progressive new design specifically tailored to create clear differentiation between the other families within the Land Rover brand: Luxury (Range Rover), Leisure (Discovery) and Dual-Purpose (Defender).
Discovery Sport’s interior is a highly configurable space, making it perfect for demanding family schedules and active lifestyles. Land Rover designers prioritised head, knee and shoulder room, and interior space is excellent in all derivatives thanks to a wheelbase of 9 feet while the backs of the front seats are ergonomically contoured to unlock even more knee-room.
Class-leading off-road capability stands at the core of Land Rover DNA. Naturally, Discovery Sport’s body geometry has been optimized for even the harshest terrain, with excellent ground clearance, approach, departure and break over angles, and an ability to wade through water at a class-leading depth of almost 2 feet.
The end result is a vehicle that can accommodate seven people in total comfort and offers an exceptional blend of performance, refinement and economy, sharp handling dynamics, tow capacity of up to 2.5 tons, and tackle even the most challenging terrain with total composure.
