Embracing Our Differences Now Too Big?
At the request of City Commissioner Susan Chapman, the board will once again discuss a statue/artwork proposed for the roundabout at Main Street and Orange Avenue, Embracing our Differences. The commission approved the design and placement of the artwork on October 19th. According to an email sent to staff, Chapman is concerned about the size of the sculpture, currently 20′ tall, 5′ wide weighing approximately 2,500 lbs. Chapman’s email said that she does not want to reject the “GIFT”, which would satisfy the public art requirement for the One Palm development, but wants to reconsider the sculpture’s size.
