Are You Super?

Sarasota Opera Announces Two “Super” Casting Calls.

The Sarasota Opera has announced dates for two “Super” casting calls for the upcoming 2016 Winter Festival Season. The first date is Tuesday, December 29th, from 5:00–5:30pm and the second date is Saturday, January 2nd, from 1:00pm–1:30pm. Both casting calls will be at the Sarasota Opera House.

Sarasota Opera is seeking a limited number of enthusiastic outgoing people, both men and women, to serve as supernumeraries, or “supers”, the non-singing extras in opera productions, for its 2016 Winter Festival Season productions of Verdi’s Aida and The Battle of Legnano, and Beethoven’s Fidelio. Supers will assume a variety of roles assigned by the stage director Stephanie Sundine. Age range for these characters is from young adult to 65.

To be considered for a super role, you must meet the following criteria:

· Must be taller than 5’ 6”
· Be physically fit. Women must have a svelte build
· Be able to perform onstage without glasses
· Be able to walk on slopes and stairs
· Be able to wear elaborate and sometimes very heavy costumes
· Be able to see in both dim and bright light
· Men must be willing to shave
· Must be able to appear onstage without glasses
· Must be able to go up and down stairs carrying a prop

Rehearsals will be in the evenings in January and February of 2016 and will NOT be every night. Performances will occur between January 30th through March 19th. A performance calendar for each specific opera will be made available at the interview.

This is a volunteer position.

If you are interested in participating in being a part of this exciting season, please contact Director of Artistic Administration Greg Trupiano at gtrupiano@sarasotaopera.org [1] to schedule an interview with stage director Stephanie Sundine.

This is the first time Sarasota Opera will present Verdi’s Aida and will be the biggest production in the company’s 57 year history. The 2016 Winter Opera Festival will mark the conclusion of Sarasota Opera’s 28 year Verdi Cycle making it the only company in the world to have performed all of the music of Giuseppe Verdi.
