A Show And Sell Of 20th Century Furniture, Décor, And Art Design.
The Center for Architecture Sarasota will host an inaugural annual fundraising event — The Modern Show – a two- day event to celebrate, showcase and sell 20th century modern furniture, décor and art. Sarasota has an important and lasting legacy of good design, and this event will honor that legacy by selling beautifully-designed pieces in good condition that have been donated by our community.
The event will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14 at the Center, located in the McCulloch Pavilion at 265. S. Orange Avenue in downtown Sarasota.
On Friday May 13 tours of significant 20th century homes will be offered ($35). In the early evening a mid-century cocktail party will be held for generous guests who will view the Showcase first and reserve their purchases before the show officially opens on Saturday. The evening will also feature a keynote speaker (to be announced) on modern design ($125).
From 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday May 14 the Showcase and Sale will open to the public free of charge. All are welcome. The Center, originally built in 1960 as the Barkus Furniture Store. In May the CFAS Gallery will again be filled with seating arrangements displaying all things modern. During the day there will be ongoing short lectures and stories from designers, architects, collectors and artists in the Lecture Hall. At 11am a vintage fashion show with Champagne will be presented on the runway under the tent ($10). Special food trucks will be on hand for coffee, snacks, drinks and lunch. The show will close at 6 pm.
