The Colony Resort Moves Closer To Redevelopment

The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort Association Chooses Unicorp For Hotel Planning.

One month after the Longboat Key Town Commission granted an extension for grandfathered tourism units at the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort, unit owners chose Unicorp National Development to represent them in their efforts to redevelop the property. Planning, Zoning and Building Director Alaina Ray states that the agreement allows Unicorp to file building permits for the planned $60,000 demolition of units.

The Colony Association aims to construct a five-star hotel and condominiums at the site of the resort, which was shut down six years ago. Unicorp plans to build 180 condos and a 180-unit hotel, but it will seek apprioval for up to 417 units. Unicorp also wants to become the project’s developer, although unit owners have not yet voted on a developer.
