State Of Florida And Florida Audubon Society Seeking To Restrict Boater Access

Access To Dot Dash, Robert’s Bay & Alafia Bank Rookeries At Risk.

Dear Friends and Clients,

The State of Florida and Florida Audubon Society are trying to restrict access to the rookeries at Alafia Bank, Dot Dash and Robert’s Bay rookeries.

As most of you know I do not get political on my boat trips, but I see this as another attempt to restrict our rights to enjoy nature. I make several trips to these rookeries every year and have never seen abuse by any boater. On our trips we keep our distance from the birds and they carry on their normal activity as though we were not there.

We were harassed by the Audubon Society at the Alafia Bank Rookery to the degree that I was forced to take this trip off my schedule. It seems, in some instances, the Audubon Society would like to keep the public away so they can selfishly enjoy the natural resources themselves. Once again, I have not witnessed any abuse of the resource.

On all of my trips, I try to educate my clients on the bird population of the islands along with enjoying and photographing the experience. This, I would assume, would protect the resource without interference of government or special interest groups.

I need your help! Please attend the meetings and voice your opposition to this proposed ruling of 100 feet border around the rookeries! This is just another example of a special interest group and government trying to restrict our rights to enjoy what God has given us.
