Pamella Horton, Chapter Director of local women’s networking group, “Sarasota County – Over 40 Females,” announced the August 22nd event will feature guest speaker, Kim Burns OTR/L, CLT, on the topic of “Drop and Give Me Zen.” Over 40 Females is a nationally acclaimed women’s networking community for women over the age of 40, and its Sarasota Chapter was organized in December, 2014. The group hosts monthly speaker events, which are open to the public and to people of all ages.
Guest speaker Burns is a certified Occupational Therapist with a specialty in Lymphatic system and Yoga. Being in the healthcare field over 20 years has provided her with extensive knowledge on a variety of disease processes with varied age populations. As someone who is managing a chronic disease and choosing a holistic path, Kim can provide you with alternative strategies for disease prevention and pain management. Yoga has been a staple in her exercise practice for over 15 years, and she incorporates it into treatment strategies for her clients.
Yoga is an ancient practice over 5000 years old that is an art and science dedicated to creating union between body, mind, spirit. No other exercise in America is woven into such a healthy behavioral lifestyle. August’s event will feature an interactive workshop to experience 3-part breath, restorative pose and a short series developed to influence one’s immune system.
The event will be held on Monday, August 22, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Blue Apron Cafe and Catering, 436 Central Avenue in Sarasota. Registration is free for chapter members, and $35 for non-members, payable at the door. Complimentary appetizers are included, and provided by Gene Still of Blue Apron Cafe and Catering.
