Your Secluded Gulf Oasis

By Ed Bertha

Taking the stairs to the grand entryway I enter the home through custom double doors and am immediately greeted by the expansive view, which is impeccably framed. Instantly I am mesmerized by the beauty of the Gulf of Mexico’s blues and Fiddler Bayou’s lush green vegetation. One can’t help but notice the inset architectural detail that makes this view picture perfect. As your gaze settles in, you glance upward and absorb the majestic 36 ft. ceiling in the main living area, complete with a four-sided clearstory windowed cupola cascading down natural ambient light.

Located right after Higel Avenue turns into Ocean Place, the Sundance Yellow, Key West style home has an allure that envelops you as near the home. Tucked away on a private beach at an opportune spot close to the north end of Siesta Key, this upscale island home inspires living in bliss. Blending form with function, this stunning home invites the outside in through the expansive use of glass. This exclusive location on a private access roadway is just a quick walk from Siesta Village or a short drive to downtown Sarasota.

Moving through the main living level I encounter the second master bedroom aptly named the Hemmingway Room, a very tranquil en-suite setup. It once again captivates me with the view of nature at its finest.

To the left of me is a substantial music room complete with guitars and a baby grand piano waiting to fill the room with soothing sounds. To my right is the formal dining room accented with a bronze chandelier. The mesmerizing view continues to beckon me and I carry on my journey through the spacious living room across the hand shaved maple floors passing a generous fireplace and coming to a stop at the expansive pocket sliders. At this point I notice another special architectural detail. There is actually a step down to the lanai from the living room. This is another facet of the home’s design that helps maximize the extraordinary view. Hallmarks of quality are found at every turn in this home, from tray ceilings, to crown molding, to built-ins.

Before stepping out to the lanai, I notice the breakfast nook and gourmet kitchen. Nook is a misnomer due to the room’s size and I use the term gourmet not only because of the custom cabinetry, requisite granite, butler’s pantry and separate wet bar, but because of the kitchens chef-oriented appliances. In addition to the brands one would expect, Thermador, Bosch, & Sub-Zero, the kitchen contains four ovens! The kitchen/breakfast area contains a gorgeous view outward through the aquarium glass window and leads to the outdoor kitchen, with a separate dining area, bar and loggia, as well as a fireplace. Where else can you enjoy the warmth of a fire while enjoying the cooling breezes coming off of the shimmering gulf?

The trip upstairs leads me to the maple staircase embellished with twisted wrought iron railing and soon I have arrived at “The Bridge”. The elevated walkway, has a heavenly view to Fiddlers Bayou and the gulf from a different perspective, like floating in the clouds.

The bridge leads around to a sitting room and two en-suite bedrooms. The flooring in this area of the home delivers a delightful texture with its change to hemp carpeting. As you exit to the outdoors, there is a covered porch which leads us to the master suite.

The sleeping chamber is sizable and emulates a West Indies feel. The island infusion is further enhanced by the double tray ceiling. The natural textures and the subtle carpeting change has you feeling beachy, complete with wind-blown ripples below your feet.

Continuing on, one passes by the “his and her closets” and the tri mirror dressing area to the master bath.

The master bath is named the “tuxedo room” for its clever use of black and white artistry. Beyond the large dual head shower and tub is the water closet complete with a bidet.

Feeling elevated, it seemed appropriate to take the elevator down. After being enclosed by the elevator something about this home strikes me. There are no curtains whatsoever. This allows the expansive glass throughout to bathe the home in natural light. The calming gulf vista, captured through the extensive use of glass creates a style as timeless as the sparkling gulf view.

Once downstairs I step out of the lanai to the pool area, which contains a gazebo-styled bath complete with hot and cold water. My voyage doesn’t stop there. I am soon setting foot upon the Surinam Ipe walkway leading to the private beach. Truly an exclusive beach where one can enjoy the serenity and sounds of nature, only found in a setting like this.

Returning to the home, I can’t help but think how calm, cool and sophisticated this multi-dimensional home is. This is a one of a kind property and it could be yours.
