Becca Z Towery – Perspectives – REAL Style

SNEAKER Mania!

Sneakers are acceptable footwear pretty much anywhere, from a polished day at the office to a slinky, sexy night at the bar.

Ladies “we’re never, ever going to say goodbye to Sneakers as they are everywhere, everyday shoes.” So treat yourself to a couple of fabulous pairs this summer and walk the Sarasota streets in REAL Style! Take note – this year we are benching our beloved white sneaks in favor of fashionable-approved tennies. After fashion week, it’s clear that the top 2018 sneaker trends are anything but basic. Between “ugly” dad sneakers, refreshing pastels, and the reboot of the retro gum sole, we wouldn’t want to be caught dead in plain white low tops.

Here are 6 Sneaker Trends every fashion girl will be wearing in 2018. These six styles have built up some major hype from sneakerheads and Instagram stars alike in only two short months.

Trend #1: Dad Sneakers
Clunky, orthopedic sneakers reminiscent of your dad’s sneakers are reappearing on runways with a slew of ’90s nostalgia from designers like Gucci, Balenciaga, and Acne Studios, with Skechers being the OG inspiration. Street style stars are pairing these dad sneakers with polished trousers and feminine skirts and dresses, bringing normcore to center stage. Now that your comfortable commute shoes are in fashion, you can leave the pumps at home and wear these trainers all day—even to date night!

Trend #2: Everything Nike Air
Nike is back in a big way with a reboot of its throwback Air sneakers dominating street style, especially Nike Air Max 97s. If you take a look around Paris, New York, or Milan, you’ll see countless influencers rocking these classic kicks. Nike Air Jordans are also getting a modern update with femme details like suede, satin, and pretty pastels perfect for spring. With SZA fully backing the brand’s new era, we have no problem seeing why people are obsessed with these retro releases. But we’ll always have a soft spot for the Nike Air Force 1, especially with the Reimagined 1 collection featuring 10 distinct pair of sneakers re-designed by women for women.

Trend #3: Satin
It’s no secret that satin is in this spring, but it’s showing up in unexpected places, like slip-on sneakers and running shoes. The satin sneaker trend is about to blow up even more with Puma’s ballet-inspired collection, En Pointe, sprinkled with softer versions of millennial pink and the prettiest satin material. Whether the girly low-top satin sneakers Selena Gomez models in Puma’s latest campaign or these Opening Ceremony lookalikes, we just can’t wait to dress up our favorite athleisure looks with a pair of fancy kicks.

Trend #4: Glitter Sneakers
We saw sparkly ankle boots for fall and glitterati eyeshadow for New Year’s Eve, but you can thank Gucci for giving life to the glitter sneakers trend with the release of its super sparkly Ace lace-ups. J.W. Anderson and Opening Ceremony followed suit with iconic collaborations with Converse and Vans featuring nothing but glitzy glitter sneakers. It-girl bloggers Julie Sarinana, Leandra Medine, and Annabelle Lefleur are in full support, sporting shimmery Golden Goose trainers all over town. Get in on the glam with all-over sparkle trainers or sneakers with subtle glitter details to add shine to your daily strut.

Trend #5: Ice Cream Pastels
We saw pastels all over the runways, from matching suits and floral dresses to macaron-colored handbags and sneakers in muted shades. Why not add these ice cream colorways to your footwear collection too? Aside from our favorite baby pink, sneaker brands have come out with dusty blues, minty greens, and powdery purples (hello, ultra violet) coupled with major platforms and lots of suede that will soon be dominating the streets. If your closet consists of comfortable neutrals, pastels are a good way to add subtle color to your wardrobe without going too bold or punch up a monochrome look.

Trend #6: Metallic Sneakers
Don’t get me wrong — I love our white sneakers, and I always will, but metallic sneakers are becoming our new go-tos for dressing up a simple outfit. They give a fresh feel to even your most basic jeans and white T-shirt. Treat them like your new fave pair of earrings to avoid over-accessorizing with a flashy pair of kicks. Between silvery slip-ons, rose-gold platforms, and golden high-tops, metallic sneakers are slowly stealing our hearts (and dare I say replacing our classic Stan Smiths).

My Real Style readers & fellow fashion followers, you will not be able to ignore (or resist) these flashy kicks this Summer & Fall.
