New Data Breach At Macy’s.

Department store chain Macy’s was the victim of a data breach that could have impacted customers’ financial information. It was not immediately clear how many customers had their information stolen as part of the attack. The retailer said that it believes that an unauthorized third party added computer code to its website, macys.com, that allowed the hacker to capture checkout and wallet page information.

Hackers potentially had access to customers’ first and last names; addresses; cities; states; ZIP codes; phone numbers; email addresses; and payment card numbers, security codes and expiration dates.

Macy’s told customers that there is no reason to believe that the incident could be used by cybercriminals to open new accounts, but consumers should remain vigilant for incidences of financial fraud and identity theft. Customers who received the letter alerting them to the hack will also receive 12 months of Experian IdentityWorks protection at no cost to them.
