2019 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Best Of Show

2019 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Who Took The Honors?

Concours founder and chairman Bill Warner, a small paid staff and 600 volunteers set up the annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance classic car event at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island and the Golf Club of Amelia Island. What a show it was. Sunny skies and fabulous automobiles; creations of art, made up the show.

“The judges told me they really struggled with it,” Warner said (Amelia Concours Founder). “But when you look at the two Best of Shows, the Ferrari 335S and Autobahn Courier, it had to be those two. There were fabulous cars here, but these are terrific. They are just the best of the best.”

An estimated 10,000-plus fans checked out the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance under sunny skies, while it was estimated that 20,000+ visited concours events and auctions all over Amelia Island.

A 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K Autobahn-Kurier owned by The Keller Collection of Petaluma, CA, won Best in Show Concours d’Elegance honors. The car, the only one known to survive, was created in-house at the Sindelfingen factory on the supercharged 540K chassis and was shown at the 1938 Paris Motor Show. “It is the only one in the world, one owner from new and I’m the second (owner),” said Arturo Keller. “It is fantastic. I am very thankful.”

Best in Show Concours d’Sport was a 1957 Ferrari 335 S owned by Cavallino Investments of Cortland, OH. The car’s pedigree is beyond belief; driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, Phil Hill, Olivier Gendebien, Alfonzo De Portago, W. Graf Berghe von Trips, Peter Collins, Maurice Trintignant, Mike Hawthorn, Luigi Musso, Stirling Moss and Gaston Andrey. The Ferarri has run in major races at Sebring, LeMans, Mille Miglia, Nürburgring and more. “The overall history, the style and technology was so advanced for 1957. It seems to check off the boxes,” owner Brian Ross said. “It is fabulous, and I am honored to win it. I never expected to.”
