Cat Depot Needs Gala Volunteers. The 2015 Love Me Tender Gala is almost a month away and Cat Depot needs help. Cat Depot is need of volunteers for the night of the Love Me Tender Gala. Positions include: Registration Greeters Silent Auction Supervisors Live Auction Spotters Ticket Sellers for Chance Drawing to Paris Silent Auction Processors Live and Silent Auction Checkout Security from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Petunia! 32 New Cats At Cat Depot. Cat Depot’s Emergency Response Team deployed this past Sunday and rescued 32 abandoned cats in a Bradenton home. The cats are currently residing in a temporary holding area in the Education & Activity Center. Cat Depot needs immediate assistance every day this week and through the weekend for morning cleaners, while their staff cares for the new arrivals upstairs. Backyard Sterilization Program Offers Free Spay/Neuter. Cat Depot announced it was the recipient of $25,000 from the Florida Animal Friend spay/neuter license plate grant. The funding will provide free spay/neuter for personal cats as part of Cat Depot’s Backyard Sterilization Program which covers zip codes 34234 and 34237. Recipients must meet government low income guidelines. Each spay/neuter will include a Rabies vaccine, flea treatment and microchip with a free lifetime registration. Kitten Foster Caregivers Also Needed! Kitten Foster Caregivers Needed! Volunteers are needed to care for cats and kittens in their homes on a temporary basis. Kittens, from as young as a few days old to several weeks old, are in desperate need of TLC. Foster Caregivers are provided with needed supplies and staff support. Training is available for first time foster volunteers. A great family project this summer, and teens are eligible for community service hours. Grants Enable Cat Depot To Offer Free Services. Cat Depot announced it is the recipient of several grants with funding for spay/neuter for community cats, as well as personal cats. Limited funds are available through the month of July, or until funds run out, for free spay/neuter which includes Rabies vaccine and microchip. Cat Depot Gains Full Time Vet. Cat Depot announced that Dr. Jill Kirk has joined the staff as a full-time veterinarian. Dr. Kirk will bring the latest in innovative techniques and practices to Cat Depot’s medical department. Dr. Kirk recently graduated from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine with a Veterinary Degree in Shelter Medicine. She is Humane Alliance trained, and a recent recipient of The Humane Service Award, AAFP Outstanding Senior Student Award, and the Melanie Meador Penn Memorial Scholarship. Cat Depot announced that Corey Roscoe, Volunteer and Education Manager at Cat Depot, will present on behalf of the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations (FAAWO) at the 2014 Florida Animal Control Association Conference.
