Thunder By The Bay Celebrates 20 Years By Returning To Sarasota. This year’s Thunder by the Bay motorcycle festival, returning to Sarasota at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds, runs from February 15-18, 2018. The two day festival portion of the weekend at the fairground continues to offer free admission to the general public. Lucy Nicandri Receives The “Service Above Self” Award. The Sarasota Sunrise Rotary Club recently awarded Lucy Nicandri, Executive Director of Suncoast Charities for Children, with the first annual David R. Mills “Service Above Self” Award. This annual award was created to recognize individuals in our local community in memory of longtime Rotarian David R. Mills. David’s life and service to the Sarasota community was an embodiment of the Rotary’s motto – “Service Above Self”. Suncoast Powerboat Grand Prix Festival Continues To Grow By Ed Bertha & Lucy Nicandri “As the purse is emptied, the heart is filled” Victor Hugo A recent Economic Impact Report released by Visit Sarasota County indicated that this year’s 31st Annual Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival generated an economic impact of $32 Million dollars for the local area, an increase over $26 Million in 2014. Direct expenditures also showed an increase from $17 Million to $20 Million. Lido Beach Cleanup Effort A Success. Suncoast Charities for Children recently partnered with Friends of Sarasota County Parks and the Surfrider Foundation for a weekend cleanup on a Lido Beach. Area Powerboat Teams Participating In Qatar Cup. Three area powerboat race teams (out of 11 race teams from the US) will travel to Doha, Qatar to compete in the 2nd Annual Qatar Cup February 4-7, 2015. Local racers participating in the Qatar Cup include Billy Glueck (Twisted Metal Race Team), Dan Lawrence (The Hulk Race Team), and Ryan Beckley (Peters & May Racing Logistics). Great White To Headline Music Lineup. The 17th Annual “Thunder By The Bay” Motorcycle Festival once again promises to be one of Sarasota’s biggest premier events kicking off the new year, presenting Great White in concert!
