Conversation at the Crocker, Mable Burton Ringling. Mable Burton Ringling (1875-1929) is remembered as the wife of John Ringling, America’s circus king. But she was much more than the gracious hostess of Ca’ d’Zan, her Sarasota mansion. Her influence is felt today on the west coast of Florida where she oversaw the construction of the couple’s 57-room Venetian Gothic mansion on Sarasota Bay. REAL, Ritz & Ringling Year III The Ritz-Carlton Members Club hosted the third annual REAL, Ritz and Ringling event December 10th. A much anticipated, and at capacity, gathering Ed Bertha welcomed the crowd and thanked Leslie Cornell Anders, Membership Director, for the club. Leslie then greeted the attendees in Ritz-Carlton style.
In 1925 Sarasota was just a small fishing town, yet was home to one of the most opulent mansions in the nation. Ca’ d’Zan represented a unique opportunity for the Ringlings to design and build their part-time winter retreat as both homes up north were purchased. What many do not know is the major role Mable played in the creation of Ca’ d’Zan.

In this issue we go behind the velvet ropes with the Curator and Keeper of Ca’ d’Zan, Ron McCarty. As Curator he is in charge of all aspects of the historic mansion, the ongoing restoration of the building, research, display and care for all of the Ca’ d’Zan objects. It is Ron's home away from home.
