REALTORS® Raise Thousands
The Manatee Association of REALTORS® (MAR) hosted an evening of music and fun at the Lake Osprey Cabaret that raised more than $5,000 for My Community Makeover. The Glass Onion Band kept the crowd moving and having fun. The band played some of the favorite tunes of the Beatles, and the sellout crowd of 100 was quick to get into the spirit.
My Community Makeover was organized in 2007 by a group of Manatee County REALTORS® and affiliate business partners through a partnership with the Manatee Community Foundation. The mission of this program is to complete necessary home repairs and improvements to insure the comfort, safety, health and security of the home for families in need.
“We have touched the hearts of many, many people,” says Gail Shane, My Community Makeover’s fundraising chair. “I’m overwhelmed with the generosity of REALTORS®, business affiliates, contractors and businesses.”
In addition to the proceeds from ticket sales, there were silent and live action items. The more than 70 items donated offered something for almost every taste and interest. Some of the standouts: Lunch with attorney Anne Weintraub to discuss real estate tips, golf outings, and The Glass Onion Band even donated their services for a future concert.
“Raising much needed funds for these very deserving families is extremely rewarding,” adds Shane, who is REALTOR® Liaison for Neal Communities. “Involvement in projects like this really follow Pat Neal’s vision for community outreach. I’m fortunate to work for a company that encourages participation.”
