Sarasota Jazz Project Orchestra Leads Off With Reverend Arthur Hallett and Bob Miner. The Sarasota Jazz Project Orchestra (SJP), a popular 16-piece band formed in 2010, brings its big band sound to the William H. Wakeman III, Cultural Center Theater, 2280 Aaron Street, Port Charlotte, for a series of seven monthly concerts beginning on Monday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. The SJP, known as “the Band with a Punch,” opens the series with music from the “Great American Songbook”—familiar and best-loved songs from the 1920s to the present. Giuseppe Verdi Returns To Sarasota Opera. The last time Sarasota Opera performed Nabucco, the work that solidified Verdi’s reputation as an opera composer, was in 1995. The production was part of the company’s historic 28-year Verdi Cycle, a feat that made Sarasota Opera the only company in the world to have performed all of Verdi’s music. 4th Of July Boat Races Raise Over $100,000 For Suncoast Charities For Children. A recent report conducted by Research Data Market Research revealed that this year’s 34th Annual HotelPlanner Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival contributed $21.9 Million in economic impact to the area, supported an estimated 14,800 room nights, and generated direct expenditures totaling $9.4 Million. Net proceeds totaling slightly over $100,000 were also raised for Suncoast Charities for Children, who produce the Grand Prix Festival and July 4th Bayfront Fireworks.
