Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Hosts Exhibit By Angela Maria Isaza
Angela Maria Isaza’s “Batiks Botanicos – Gardens, Plants and Flowers for the Soul”.
From January 8th through February 23rd, 2010 Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will host an exhibit by Angela Maria Isaza. On January 10th from 1:00-3:00pm there will be an opening reception in the Museum of Botany and the Arts at the Gardens.
Isaza has captured the diversity and beauty of exotic and tropical plants found at Selby Gardens using batik, an art painting technique that originated in the East. Batik uses hot wax, dyes and natural fiber cloth. Original compositions depict foliage, flowers, trees in bloom and plants gracefully growing on the ground, up in the trees, or by the water. Created through personal vision, they reflect a mysterious, yet natural feeling of her appreciation and representation of nature.
Isaza’s interest lies in promoting the beauty and value of fragile natural environments. The flora found in the tropical forests of the Andes Mountains of Colombia, her native country, has been the primary inspiration for her creations. The native wild plants and flowers in Florida have also served to inspire her work.
Come explore the wonder and beauty of Isaza’s batiks and the Gardens who have inspired them!
